Petrophysics in the Energy Transition: ASET SIG Workshop at SPWLA Annual Convention 2025
From May 17–21, 2025, the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) 66th Annual Symposium will take place in Dubai, UAE, under the theme Technology, Integration, and Innovation for the Future Energy Era.
Given its location in a region with over 56% of the world's oil reserves, the SPWLA 66thAnnual Symposium, features a wealth of events and topics highlighting the evolving energy landscape through technical sessions, workshops, and field trips.
A key part of the symposium is a one-day workshop on Petrophysics in the Energy Transition, delivered by the Alternative Subsurface/Energy Transition Special Interest Group (ASET SIG) board. The ASET SIG board, chaired by Gerold Tischler, alongside fellow board members, this workshop will focus on advancing petrophysics and formation evaluation in non-traditional subsurface environments. The session will explore applications in geothermal energy, carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS), nuclear waste storage, and other low-carbon industries, emphasizing the role of petrophysics beyond hydrocarbons.
Throughout the symposium, attendees will have the opportunity to explore Alt. Earth,
Alt. Earth is cost-effective, user friendly subsurface interpretation software designed with geologists, geoscientists, petrophysicists and engineers working within alternative energy industries. It is the creation of a team of seasoned subsurface geoscientists, geoscience experts, and subsurface data analysts and is robust, reliable and accurate, designed for ease of use, flexibility, and compatibility with client data streams.
