June 2025: A Global Geothermal Moment

June is shaping up to be a landmark month for geothermal energy - from Europe to North America, and from the Middle East to the UK, the geothermal conversation is heating up.
At Alternative Earth, we’re thrilled to be sponsoring the Geological Society of Great Britain (GESGB) “Geothermal in the UK – What’s Next?” - a hybrid in-person and online event that promises to be a pivotal moment for the UK’s geothermal future.
The event, taking place on Thursday 12 June 2025 at the Geological Society in London, will explore everything from resource potential to commercializing low-, medium-, and high-grade heat sources, with panels and discussions focused on what’s next for the industry.
If you are in London, get in touch with Gerold directly, he’ll be very happy to meet and discuss how Alt. Earth can support geothermal projects.
But this event is not happening in isolation.

Fervo goes deeper, hotter and faster!
June 2025 will likely be remembered for a groundbreaking drilling record set by Fervo Energy - demonstrating their commitment to innovation and driving the industry forward.
On June 10, Fervo announced the successful drilling of its Sugarloaf appraisal well, in South Utah. Reaching a true vertical depth of 15,765 feet (4805 meters) and 520°F (270°C) - its hottest and deepest well to date.
- Drilled in just 16 days – a 79% reduction in time vs. DOE benchmarks
- Record ROP – with a maximum average ROP of 95 feet/hour
These records demonstrate what’s possible when oil and gas expertise is harnessed to advance geothermal energy.
Bridging Industries
At Alternative Earth, we believe the future of geothermal lies in collaboration - especially with the oil and gas sector. The expertise, infrastructure, and capital from oil and gas can accelerate geothermal’s growth exponentially. Learning from different industries will unlock further innovations, expertise and techniques to realize the true potential of geothermal, for clean baseload (24/7) energy and a just-energy transition
Our Commitment
We’re here to support the geothermal community with functional, fun, simple, and cost-effective software to help achieve well objectives - whether you’re breaking records drilling deeper, hotter and faster in the USA, planning new district heat systems in Europe, or decarbonizing the cooling of buildings in the Middle East!
