Gerold Tischler Appointed SPWLA SIG Chair

Aberdeen, UK: Gerold Tischler, AE Product Champion, has been appointed Chair of the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) Special Interest Group (SIG) for Alternative Subsurface Energy Transition.

The purpose of this Special Interest Group (SIG) is to advance the science of petrophysics and formation evaluation in non-traditional and emerging environments, particularly within low-carbon industries such as geothermal energy, carbon capture, utilization and storage, nuclear waste storage, and non-hydrocarbon extractive industries. The SIG also serves as a forum for technical discussions on data acquisition, applications, and interpretation, raising awareness of petrophysics and formation evaluation within these sectors, and developing and promoting industry standards.

Additionally, this group aims to promote the importance of petrophysics beyond the oil and gas industry, highlighting its critical role in achieving a net-zero world. When exploring and drilling wells to record subsurface data using remote sensing equipment, having a Petrophysicist interpret this information is invaluable.

Commenting on his appointment, Gerold said:I’m honored to step in as Chair and look forward to collaborating with the board and Industry to deliver webinars, workshops and discussions on the Energy transition from a petrophysical perspective.”

Membership is open to all current members of the SPWLA who are directly involved in or interested in learning about and contributing to discussions on these various types of subsurface explorations.
